marechal technology

The decontactor is a plug and socket with an integral load-break switch. Its unique design offers various technical benefits tthe end-user':
- contact quality
- safe disconnection
- automatically watertight
- safety vis à vis the public
- cost reduction thanks to dual-voltage
- reliability and overall sturdiness

Release button: safe disconnect

Pressing the release button triggers the springs in the casing and on the contacts which break the connection in the individual chambers at such a speed that re-striking of electric arc is prevented.
Therefore pilot contacts or additional switch is not required.

Butt contact: high performance connection

The decontactor uses braided butt contacts with a solid silver-nickel tip and a rated helical spring. Contact pressure is generated by the compression of this spring, in line with the insertion force, without friction.
Springs operate at only a fraction of their maximum rated resilience and can perform hundreds of thousands of cycles without losing their properties (car-valve springs perform over 500 million cycles over decades).

Resistance to corrosion

.

Contact surfaces on both sides tips made of 85% silver and 15% nickel allied. This ensures the a very high conductivity even in very corrosive environments.

The other metallic materials used in Marechal products, including screws and springs, are made of stainless steel or anti-corrosion treated to guarantee durability of the products in the harshes conditions.

Automatic IP seal

Most Marechal products are watertight upon connection without any additional operation. When disconnected, the socket-outlet is also automatically watertight as soon as the lid is closed.

Protection with safety shutter

Most decontactor models come with a safety shutter on the socket-outlet that shields the live contacts when the plug is disconnected and the lid is open. Only a decontactor plug with compatible polarity can be donnected. Thus, wrong plugs cannot be inserted, and the public cannot access the live parts.

Keying system

The decontactor offers a wide number of keying positions for both standard voltages, special voltages or particular needs, all using common parts. The interior mouldings, which contain the contacts of both the inlet and the socket-outlet can be assembled into their respective casings in several different angular positions (notches). A plug and a socket-outlet can only mate if they are
set on the same notch or are electrically compatible.

Dual voltage to reduce cost

.
With the decontactor, a 3pne 400 V socket-outlet can also connect 400 V 3pe, 230 V pne and 230 V domestic adaptors. Installation cost is greatly reduced, offering more flexibility.

Spring-loaded elastic terminals

The decontactor terminal has a design that compensates for strand settlement and copper yield. A constant force is applied to the conductor by means of a screw and an elliptical deforming ring around a split terminal body.
To prevent damage to the strands, the tightening screw has a soft head and its diameter is optimised. The conductor tunnel is offset to maximise the number of threads engaged by the screw.

Padlocking

.
Padlocking features are optional, either to avoid accidental disconnection or prevent connection once the socket lid is closed.
It is also possible to drill a hole in the inlet and add a padloacking device in order to prevent it connection to any socket -outlet.

Casings

Decontactors use high performance materials
that resist to most chemicals and have out-
standing mechanical characteristics in a broad
range of temperature.
Their resistance to shocks varies between IK08
and IK10 according to IEC 62262 standard.
The casings are either made or GRP (glass re-
inforced polyester), high performance polyamide
or metal.
Generally speaking, the operating range of temperature of our products is -40 °C to +60 °C. Some products have been designed to operate at higher temperatures.
